Born in Bristol and studied at Bristol college of art. Lear currently lives and works in Pembrokeshire. His most recent project was a large commision for Rhosygilwen concert hall.

His work can appear as quiet and contemplative, yet always holding a certain degree of tension. The words freedom and space can come to mind, yet the paintings are not mere pollyanna. There are expresions of life's events and drama conveyed within the markings and use of colour, that ensure they are grounded within our time.
