Landscape has always been a preoccupation of mine. Recently the Rheidol valley near my home and the coastal area of West Wales have been very important . Something fundamental about these places attracts me; the light, the watery expanses and big skies; their raw elements assaulting the senses; and the shape and feel of it all ever newly configuring, ever inviting discovery.
I am absorbed by the process of making these elements work within the two dimensions, with all the beautiful surprises and accidents that intervene to enrich the process. Then there are those hard-won moments of 'finding' the image, when things seen and felt in the landscape and in paint somehow concur; rare moments of joy and relief.
