David Tress was born in London and studied at Harrow College and Trent Polytechnic. He moved to Pembrokeshire in 1976.
He has shown in group shows and solo shows in Wales and London and has work in national collections.
Tress is fascinated with the nature of the landscape and in particular the way in which the changing seasons and the light can affect the same view in endless different ways. He makes sketches on the spot which act as a catalyst to his work when he is back in the studio. He does not try to recreate the scene but uses his sketches and memories as a springboard into his larger drawings and paintings. The resulting works reflect the reaction that occurs between him and the landscape.
