About us at West Wales Art Centre
The privately run West Wales Arts Centre was established in 1987 by Myles Pepper in partnership with the late William James O.B.E. Over the years the centre has continued to establish a reputation for showing leading fine and contemporary applied art and is recognised by the Crafts Council for quality. Our policy has been to show the work of established national and international artists and craftspeople, together with encouraging and promoting the work of up and coming talent. The Centre is also active in staging a varied live Arts programme of lectures and music recitals and information on these is available on request. About Myles Pepper
Myles Pepper's career spans 30 years in the field of arts and culture. Having studied in the School of Jewellery and Silversmithing in Birmingham Polytechnic in the early 1970's he has been established in North Pembrokeshire ever since. After running a series of work-shops, including training apprentices, he established his first gallery in Fishguard, Talking Point / Man Trafod in 1983. Expanding to a larger premises in 1987, which is known as the West Wales Arts Centre, again in Fishguard, the move to a larger premises enabled the presenting of a wider arts programme including music performances and lectures. Under the inspiration of the then young cellist Nia Harries, from Dinas, and a peripatetic strings teacher, Bridget Jenkins, together they began to put on musical recitals - the first at the Centre and then, as they grew in popularity, in venues such as churches, chapels and community centres. The success of these earlier ventures was the foundation stone for what has now become a year round provision which is recognised far and wide. His broad experience in the world of arts and business has led to consultancy work for government, and a wide range of agencies including working with a pan-Ireland brief. Whilst working with people of all ages and backgrounds key to his aim is working in partnership with the education system and all aspects of education. The fruits of this are now coming through on a pleasingly regular basis. Having been a director of operations for many years this has led to his staging of many successful events throughout Wales and Ireland. His aim is to always build on past achievements to the greater benefit of the whole society through bringing to the fore the great value of our cultural strengths. |
